Mission Statement:

New Horizons Women's Medical Group's goal is to provide continuous quality health care for individuals from the adolescent through menopausal stages of life.

History:

New Horizons Women's Medical Group was conceived in early 1969, by Drs. Max Karrer, William Wooden, and David Friedline when they merged their Obstetric and Gynecology practices to form Women's Medical Group. The group maintained offices at both Memorial Hospital and Jacksonville Beach until September 1998 when the offices were consolidated into one office on the grounds of St. Lukes Hospital. This consolidated office was moved back to Memorial Hospital in August 2001. Of the three founding physicians, Dr. David Friedline retired on medical disability in 1996 and Dr. William Wooden retired also on medical disability in 2000. Dr. Max Karrer remains in practice with his practice limited to gynecology.

Drs. Angela Martin and Joan Macksey joined the group in July 1991 and September 1997 respectfully. Dr. Martin and Dr. Macksey became partners and assumed the presidency of the group from Dr. Karrer in April 1998 and the name of the group was changed to New Horizons Women's Medical Group in July 2001.

Drs. Angela S. Martin, Joan M. Macksey and Deborah Lyon at New Horizons Women's Medical Group along with their Certified Nurse Practitioners Rita Lais, ARNP and Susan Purvis, ARNP, take the time to sit down with each patient to discuss any questions they may have. Their services are comprehensive and include obstetrics and gynecology, routine primary health care for women of all ages, contraception, routine and enhanced pap smears, detection and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, adolescent problems and total menopause management.

Board Certified and fellows of the American College of OB/GYN, Drs. Martin, Macksey and Lyon have 45 years of combined experience. Dr. Martin has previously served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Memorial Hospital. They all perform minor and major surgery, the management of menstrual disorders and have special interest in the evaluation and treatment of infertility.
